Bob’s Personal Story
Bob’s motivation to start the Crable Foundation was rooted in his personal experiences from his own high school days. Bob had the opportunity to attend Moeller High School only through the generosity of Mr. E.A. (Ed) Zicka who took a special interest in developing young men like Bob. Tuition assistance was not a formal need in Catholic education at that time, but Mr. Zicka’s generous assistance gave Bob and others the chance to excel athletically, academically and spiritually. Bob’s athletic and academic success at Moeller opened the door for a scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, where he continue his Catholic education. Bob’s mom and dad, Joan and Jack Crable, impressed upon all seven of their children the importance of giving back to those in need. Bob vowed that he would give back as Mr. Zicka gave to so many of the young men at Moeller during Bob’s time. Providing opportunities for others will truly assess a young person’s courage, stamina and ingenuity in the face of adversity.
